Silver Lining

The day a dark shadow was cast over his mother's brain, the first to fall victim was the everyday life of the artist. His room is filled with cold air, sinking into and lingering in a deep chasm of emptiness. His senses escalate into nervousness, his breaths mingling into the void of silence.

At last, he leans forward, driving away his scattered anxieties. Amidst this fragile movement, the first pagoda makes its solemn emergence.

His early pagodas resemble prayers; each touch of his fingertips is embellished with a sense of heft. With time, the pagodas reveal their sharp contours; the prayers take on the movement patterns of an adamant resistance. The artist no longer awaits salvation. He simply pierces through the fear and anxiety with his hands and eyes, weaving forms into the fabric of reality. The sculptures emerging from the tips of his saws and blades loosen the boundaries of protection and attack, taking on a mysterious presence.

The pagodas shift into Vajras and Shield Kites. The materials become lighter, all while retaining their original heft and power. Sharp edges shear through, opening breaches; the marks left on the surface serve as record of the artist's resistance against the nervousness. The Shield Kite soars through the sky, shaking the opposing menace and serving as the guardian of the artist's family against the blowing wind. Upon this, the artist stands keen. He taps into his old memories and insecurities about his appearance. His stubborn obsession with his hair shifts into figurations. His previous attempts to harden his own psyche burn on as ornate metallic flickers. These shaking moments converge into one, at the end of which the artist's sculptures glisten with a cold and composed stature.

Thus the viewer, within the silence, comes face-to-face with the trajectory of time that the artist has lived through. Within this trajectory, the viewer encounters the "Silver Lining," the delicate and subtle light that only those who have endured the long trials of darkness can sense. The Silver Lining serenely wraps itself around the entire exhibition.
